GSRD Therapy
GSRD is an acronym for Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity. The term was coined, developed, and championed by Dominic Davies, Meg John-Barker, and Silva Neves.
For many LGBTQ+ people, people in polyamorous relationships, and people in the kink community, the idea of approaching therapy can be particularly challenging, or even threatening. For an incredibly long time, being queer was heavily stigmatised within society at large, particularly within the field of mental health.
It’s important that each client feels seen and heard exactly as they are, without having to provide the emotional labour of educating their therapist. This is just one reason why GSRD therapy is such an important practice.
Specific issues facing LGBTQ+ people can include:
- Minority stress
- Coming out
- Transphobia and homophobia
- Dealing with shame
- Specific psychosexual issues
- Hostile political architecture
- Addiction, intimate partner violence, and abuse
At Theia Therapy, we are fully trained in providing GSRD therapy, and work hard to keep up to date with the most recent LGBTQ+-affirming research and findings. We are also a queer-owned business! So, you can rest assured – you are safe here.
